Location:
The quaint little town of Mount Holly, North Carolina is found right outside of the metro city of Charlotte. When living in Mount Holly one gets a taste of the suburbs and of the urban area with Charlotte only beings fifteen minutes away. The town is located in Gaston County and is right beside the towns Belmont, North Carolina and Stanley, North Carolina.
Summary/Conclusion:
The town of Mount Holly has vastly grown since it was only one store and the name was still Woodlawn. The city has grown immensely and the population was at 13,656 according to the 2010 census and has grown even more in the past four years. (United States Census Bureau, 2010) The town has changed since it first began and the downtown area has grown a lot. The town still has its roots and houses some textile factories, the initial economic start of the town. It still has plenty of its historical presence. All the buildings are just as the were with the only addition of new signs for the businesses that are currently there. The town has kept all the historical landmarks such as the cotton mill, the train station, the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, C.E. Hutchinson House and Augusta Rhyne Cannon, and Dellinger-Nantz House. It was amazing seeing pictures of the same buildings/place and seeing how they changed. The culture of the town is like no other--its a small town with a big city fill. The town has constant events to enjoy the community fill. If it's not concerts and movies in the park its the Mount Holly farmers market. I love my town and all its rich history. Just walking down the street or going to my church I experience history. I love how how I learned so much about the place I grew up at.
